Every great innovation begins with a simple, human insight. For Varna, that insight came from noticing how often people forget to hydrate—and how something as basic as drinking water can profoundly affect mood, focus, and emotional balance.

Through the VisionnaireX Innovation Program, Varna led the creation of AquaMind, a wellness app that transforms daily hydration into an engaging, data-driven, and emotionally intelligent habit. Built with no-code and AI-assisted design tools, AquaMind bridges physical and mental well-being—helping users stay hydrated and happy.

Busy lifestyles, back-to-back classes, and endless screen time mean that many people simply forget to drink enough water. Dehydration leads not only to fatigue and headaches but also to anxiety, irritability, and reduced concentration.

Varna’s research showed that most hydration apps are one-dimensional—they log ounces of water but ignore how hydration affects mental health. Meanwhile, smart water bottles are expensive, limiting accessibility.

AquaMind set out to fix both gaps: make hydration tracking affordable, intelligent, and emotionally aware.

🧩 Designing with Empathy

Varna and her teammates designed AquaMind with five key user personas in mind—from fitness enthusiasts and athletes in training to busy professionals and travelers who often neglect hydration on the go.

Each user profile helped shape the interface, tone, and reminders—ensuring the app feels personal, friendly, and relevant to different lifestyles.

They tested early versions with peers, gathering feedback on usability and aesthetics. After learning that users wanted a more interactive, “story-driven” experience, the team introduced mini-games, motivational quotes, and a narrative progress bar that unlocks as hydration goals are achieved.

The result? An app that feels more like Duolingo for wellness—making daily hydration both rewarding and joyful.

AquaMind was built using no-code AI-enhanced tools and interactive front-end technologies.

At just 16 years old, Jeshal Mohapatra set out to solve a challenge millions face every day — staying motivated on their fitness journey. Many people lose motivation after a few months of working out because they don’t see visible results — even when they’re making real progress. Jeshal noticed how fitness tracking apps often focus only on numbers, not visual change or personal experience.

That observation became the spark for FitLens, an app designed to use artificial intelligence and computer vision to measure true transformation — helping users visualize their improvement in a way that feels real and encouraging.

“The scale doesn’t tell the full story,” Jeshal explains. “I wanted to create a tool that shows people the change they’re working so hard for.”

Built using no-code AI platforms, FitLens combines machine learning, image analysis, and motivational design to redefine how users track their health.

About

Shrigopal Maheshwari, a 17-year-old innovator from India, joined the VisionnaireX Catalyst Mentorship Program with a deep personal motivation: helping his grandmother regain confidence while walking independently.

 

Under the mentorship of Florentina Precup (Early-Stage Advisor, Former Data & AI Product Director and Venture Leader, Philips Healthcare and ex-Bain & Company), he transformed that empathy-driven idea into a tangible innovation called Smart Saathi - an AI-enabled walking companion for elderly individuals.

 

Over just ten 1:1 sessions, Shrigopal learned how to combine engineering, AI modeling, and human-centered design to create a product that balances safety, dignity, and independence.

 

His prototype impressed the evaluation panel, and he has since filed a design patent for Smart Saathi - a remarkable milestone for a student his age.

 

The project was presented in the VisionnaireX Health-Tech Pitch Session to Prof. Helma Torkamaan (TU Delft, AI for Health Systems), who praised its “human-centered design focus and thoughtful use of AI.”

Smart Saathi
(meaning “intelligent companion” in Hindi) is designed to support seniors who face mobility challenges or fear of falling. Unlike conventional walking sticks, Smart Saathi integrates multiple technologies to provide predictive safety and real-time reassurance.

Key Features Include:

  1. Predictive Intelligence: Uses gait speed, grip pressure, and movement data to anticipate falls before they occur.
  2. Multi-Sensor System: Ultrasonic, IMU, and pressure sensors detect obstacles, uneven surfaces, and instability.
  3. Self-Standing Base & Ergonomic Handle: Improves posture and prevents the cane from tipping when not in use.
  4. Connected Caregiver Alerts: Sends proactive updates to family or caregivers — not just emergency SOS signals.
  5. Human-Centered Design: Looks and feels like a modern walking aid, helping elders maintain dignity and confidence.

PROJECT GOAL

Shrigopal’s mission was not merely to build a device, but to address a human problem: the loss of confidence and independence among the elderly due to mobility fears.

 

Core Goals:

  • Reduce the risk of falls through predictive assistance rather than reactive alerts.

  • Restore emotional confidence and dignity for elderly users.

  • Reassure families with smart, non-intrusive caregiver connectivity.

  • Demonstrate how youth-led innovation can bridge empathy and technology for social good.

Product Strategy for ‘Dementia Pal’ – an app for making lives of patients & caretakers easier
  • This project aims to explore the product research, identifying core features to develop a mobile app, Dementia Pal, aimed at providing daily life assistance to dementia patients while also offering support and real-time updates to their caregivers. 
  • The app would ideally integrate with wearable sensors and have smart reminders to improve the quality of life for patients and alleviate caregiver burden.

Key Learnings
  • Dementia patients struggle with performing basic tasks, such as remembering medication times or attending appointments, due to memory loss.
  • Caregivers, while dedicated, often face emotional exhaustion and stress, as they need to constantly monitor the health and well-being of the patients.
  • Current technological solutions are either too complex for elderly patients or don’t provide personalized support for caregivers.
PRODUCT NEEDS IDENTIFIED:
  • For Patients: They need a solution that is easy to use and can help them manage their day-to-day lives without adding stress.
  • For Caregivers: They need real-time updates on the patient’s condition and immediate alerts for any potential health concerns.

CONCLUSION

  • Significant progress in researching and identifying the key features of Dementia Pal was achieved.
  • This project taught the importance of user researching and also designing with empathy, especially when working with vulnerable populations.
  • Dementia Pal not only provides a solution for daily care management but also empowers patients and caregivers by offering them peace of mind.
  • The next steps identified by the mentee involve learning design tools to create digital mockups, conducting usability testing, and refining the app based on user feedback.
